QS Connector
Quick Safe Connector (QSC) – a substitute for traditional shackles and links and designed to be used manually or by a set of manipulators mounted on the deck rails of a vessel. They were developed as part of a commercial competition launched by Statoil to promote crew-free deck operations. Responding to this competition, Rolls Royce developed the QSC with Viking as part of a Remote Anchor Handling System (RAHS) with manipulator arms mounted on the vessel deck rails which are transversely mounted on a gantry beam. These manipulating arms can connect and disconnect without interference from personnel using a special tool package.

The connectors can replace existing shackle chain connections which have injured people on deck. They act as a stiff connector when loaded, as a swivel when unloaded, and can take loads over a stern roller and be used when spooling wire into wore drums. Maersk has now developed their first AHV Maersk Laser with the new RAHS from Rolls-Royce incorporating QSC tooling.
